Medium: Watercolor and gouache on Arches Watercolor Paper
Size: Approx. 5×7″
My process: I started with the ducks, blending cerulean blue and alizarin crimson to get a mauve-gray color for the first duck, adding layers to get dark areas for shapes. I used the same mixture for the 2nd duck. Peach Black was used for the tail feathers and other dark areas. The beaks and feet were painted with mixtures of Aureolin Yellow, Scarlet Lake and Alizarin Crimson.
In the background, I used Phthalo Blue, Aureolin Yellow, Winsor Purple and Cerulean Blue. The foreground was Quin. Burnt Scarlet, Raw Sienna and Quin. Gold. I scraped in the background to get lighter tree trunks and used dry brush strokes for the path roughness. Shadows were Cobalt Violet.
